I agree with the logical and critical thinking practice while reading this book. As an English teacher, the student was able to wonder the next steps and situation of the story. As far as I can remember, the list was found in a not usual way! Figured it was time to read a Nate the Great book since I'm married to a great Nate. Story is cute and easy to follow for young readers. Includes science projects at the end that relate to the story. Feb 14, Kristine rated it liked it.

Claude has lost his grocery list. Nate asks if Claude can remember what was on the list, Claude says no but he can remember part "salt, milk, butter, flour, sugar, and tuna fish. They can't find the list. Nate drops the map he created to see if Claude had dropped the list where the wind might have carried it. Th Claude has lost his grocery list.
The wind carries Nate's map to Rosamond's house she is covered in flour. She said she was making cat pancakes from a new recipe. Nate has some of Rosamond's cat pancakes they taste fishy.
Rosamond says she see that Fang has a piece of paper in his jaws which might be the list. Nate is unsure how to get the paper, until he has Sludge bark, Fang barks back and the paper drops from his jaws. Nate goes chasing after the paper, but it ends up just being his map. Nate goes back to Claude who remembers two more items on the list 'eggs and baking powder.
It is then he solves the case. He goes back to Rosamond's house and tells her that her cat pancake recipe was actually Claude's grocery list. One of things I like in all Nate the Great mysteries, is the notes he writes to his mom before starting any of his investigations. That shows a mature side of his personality which may build some sense of responsibility among his readers.

We had read all the books in this series that were in our old library system.
Now that we have moved, we've found all kinds of new books available to us. In any case, this was a fun mystery and as our girls are becoming more interested in cooking, they particularly liked this story. We'll have to make pancakes very soon! The endings of the books were always the same, they figured out what or who did it.
