Lead is a multi-organ toxicant implicated in various cancers, diseases of the hepatic, renal, and reproductive systems etc. In search of cheap and readily available antidote this study has investigated the role of activated charcoal in chronic lead exposure in albino rats. Eighteen mature male albino rats were used, divided into three groups of six rats per group. Rats in group 2 showed significant increases in serum Aspartate aminotransferase, Alkaline phosphatase, Alanine aminotransferase, urea, bilirubin, total cholesterol, triglycerides, Low Density Lipoprotein, Very Low Density Lipoproteins, Total White Blood Cell Counts, Malondialdehyde, Interleukin-6, and decreases in Packed Cell Volume, hemoglobin concentration, Red blood cell count, total proteins, albumins, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and total glutathione.

Diabetes is a complex metabolic disorder and different environmental toxicants including heavy metals have been involved in diabetes induction.

Food and feeds contaminated with mycotoxins have been a threat to the rearing industry by causing some of the most fatal toxic reactions not only in the farm animals but also in humans who consume them. Toxicity to juvenile goats was induced by feed contamination with T-2 toxin at 10 and 20 ppm dosage; group I and II, respectively. The toxicity impact was assessed on days 15 and 30 post treatment with respect to growth performance, oxidative stress, apoptotic studies and detailed pathomorphology. The study revealed that apart from the obvious clinical toxicosis weakness, lethargy, and retardation in growth , the toxin fed groups also exhibited significant haematological reduced hemoglobin, total leukocyte and thrombocyte counts and biochemical changes increased levels of oxidative stress markers with concomitant decrease in levels of serum and tissue catalase and superoxide dismutase. The pathomorphological and histological alterations suggested that the liver and intestine were the most affected organs.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of individual or combined doses of dehydro-epiandrosterone DHEA and quercetin in ameliorating some biochemical indices in liver of CuO-NPs intoxicated-rats. We highlighted the therapeutic effect of DHEA and quercetin against CuO-NPs toxicity through monitoring the alteration of liver enzyme activity, antioxidant defense mechanism, necrosis, apoptosis, histopathological alterations, and DNA damage.

Lead, toxic heavy metal of global concern, induces toxicity in various organs via oxidative stress. Thereby, in this study, the protective role of curcumin against lead acetate-induced toxicity was evaluated. Thirty-two male albino rats were allocated equally into four groups and orally administered with corn oil as a vehicle Cont. The results revealed that LA toxicity induced normocytic normochromic anemia with significant leukocytosis and lymphocytosis. Moreover, LA-intoxicated rats showed a marked elevation in the liver enzyme activities, serum cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. In contrast, sero-immunological parameters, total protein, albumin, globulin, and testosterone levels were significantly reduced compared to the control rats.

Availability of heavy metals is determined by physical factors phase association, temperature, adsorption , chemical factors lipid solubility, kinetics and biochemical factors human trophism 1. Therapeutic, accidental or occupational exposure to several metals may cause renal toxicity. The most common metals implicated in kidney toxicity are arsenic, barium, cadmium, cobalt, copper, lead, lithium, mercury and platinum. Small amounts of these trace elements are necessary for good health because they are important factors and cofactors in many biochemical cellular pathways, including nucleic acids and proteins synthesis, and enzymatic reactions. A large amount of heavy metals results from agriculture and industrial activities such as production of pesticides, batteries, alloys, and textile dyes but natural phenomena such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions have also been reported to significantly contribute to environmental pollution 2. Heavy metals may enter chronically into the human body through food, water, air or skin whereas acute poisoning is the result from inhalation or skin contact of vapors, fumes, dust in workplace, or an inappropriate use of some therapeutic measures.

И вдруг впереди словно зажглась заря. Темнота стала рассеиваться, сменяясь туманными сумерками. Стены туннеля начали обретать форму. И сразу же из-за поворота выехала миниатюрная машина, ослепившая ее фарами.

Kidney and heavy metals - The role of environmental exposure (Review)
