My son just loves origami and among all the books that he has, he loves this one. This book shows a methodical way of making origami insects. It is really worth it as it not limited to a few origami insects, as well as it is easy to follow. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries.

The book gives instructions to create 20 different arthropods. The created animals are amazing looking and detailed with legs, antennaes or pincers on all arthropods. From the ones I made as of yet, I love the cicada the most. They are very hard to make, so the book is deffinetly not for beginners.

I would recommend it if you are experienced with some of the more complex folds. The book isn't perfect though, as some of the diagrams are a bit confusing, and describe steps that in other books would be divided into multiple diagrams for easier understanding. The book kind of expects you to be already somewhat familiar with otherwise not too commonly folds. For some models I had to look up some of the steps online and found that others are also confused about them. Still, most of the book is understandable, hard to do but the final products are very good looking.

Report abuse. I have to agree with the consensus. Despite having come back to origami over a 30 year period I find the models here can be very difficult. The butterfly is giving me nightmares!!! As with many origami authors I find the same problems cropping up in the books.

The diagrams appear concise but then complex steps are simply a before and after. Other artists tend to show additional steps "mid fold" so you can see how the paper collapses but here you are left to try and hope for the best. This leads to lots of frustration especially when you come to steps which imply repeating a few earlier steps only you in fact half repeat them. On one model I completed I discovered one diagram was drawn wrong halfway in - I checked ahead a couple of steps and realised the mistake but this is not a good sign.

Overall I would say the annoyances and vagueness of some complicated steps do earn this a 5 star. You want some fantastic bugs and a headache and lots of hair pulling get this book - you want to keep your hair but end up with simpler bugs then get the book by John Montroll, the choice is yours!

Worth every penny. Think you're good at origami? You've folded your way quite nicely, thank you, through the books from Robert Harbin's era? Then have a go at this. But be warned, it's not for the feint-hearted or the beginner.

I still don't know how anyone thinks these designs up, but they do, and they're amazing. Be prepared for folds you've never encountered before, to be baffled by what the instructions say not because they're faulty - just not what you've seen before , and then to be so proud of yourself for getting the finished product.

There are quite a few models in this book. I've managed five in the last year, having done origami, off and on, for over 30 years. There are models in here that I still can't do, and am completely stuck on.

This, for me, is brilliant. It means that I have challenges for a long time to come and that this was money very well spent. Great models, many a good hour be stretched with these folds. Back to top. Get to Know Us. Connect with Us. Make Money with Us. Let Us Help You.
